Westminster at a Glance
“The church is looking for better methods; God is looking for better men–men full of the Holy Spirit and faith, men who are willing to pay the price”
J. Gresham Machen
History and Why it Matters to Me
Founded in 1929 by J. Gresham Machen, Westminster Theological Seminary has a nearly 100-year history of academic excellence and gospel-centered formation. Westminster’s goal is to train specialists in Scripture and pastors who teach the whole counsel of God.
Westminster is widely regarded as the most academically rigorous seminary in the country. Its Master of Divinity program is equivalent to a typical M.Div plus ThM. In fact, it is common for one of their M.Div graduates to go right into doctoral studies. Every class builds on the last, rooted in a confessional and Reformed perspective.
I look forward to working through doctrine I fully embrace and doctrine I am still wrestling with. Their clarity, conviction, and fidelity to historic Reformed theology will form me as a scholar, preacher, and pastor.
This formation matters deeply because the contexts I serve in require courage, boldness, and biblically rooted wisdom. That is, the South Jersey area and the 2025 digital landscape. Through Westminster, I will have additional tools to engage the complex plurality of modern beliefs and the theological misinformation that confuses many today.
